Fair Lawn police said that the car mistakenly turned onto the tracks.

Port Jervis Line train 63, which left Hoboken at 6:37 p.m. and was scheduled to arrive in Port Jervis at 9:12 p.m., struck the vehicle on the tracks at the Morlot Avenue Crossing just before 7:30 p.m., NJ Transit officials said.

The vehicle was unoccupied and there were no injuries reported to the approximately 73 customers or crew on board.

Service was temporarily suspended in both directions between Broadway and Ridgewood stations, but has since resumed. New Jersey Transit Police are on scene leading the investigation.
